Announcements (External and Internal)
Parade of Lights (Karen Greene) - Parade of Lights is a wonderful event happening on December 6th. If you would like to participate but don’t have a group, the library would be happy for you to join in with them.
Speedway/Stone Development (Karen Greene) - There is an upcoming meeting on November 24th 5:30pm - 7:30pm regarding the Speedway/Stone development at the school. It’s a development that has been in the works for a long time so it’s good to see it starting to move forward.
Garmin Marathon Organizers (Karen Greene) - Not so much an announcement but a request. If anyone is involved with the debrief meetings for the Garmin Marathon that happened on November 15th please share that communication with the neighborhood could have been a lot better. Many didn’t find out about the event until a day or two before and it had a lot of impact on getting out of our neighborhood.
Annual Dog Calendar (Brendan Shea) - The annual dog calendar is getting put together again and they need photos of your pets! Please share photos and stories of your pets if you want them to occupy a specific month.
Stone Avenue Complex (Thomas Stellini) - Groundbreaking was supposed to happen this month but nothing has happened. Thomas has reached out to them to see if they have any updates.
Neighborhood Officer Resource (Thomas Stellini) - Thomas reached out and was able to confirm that Officer Hinthorn is still our community resource officer. Thomas has a meeting with them to align on how we interact with them better.
Salvation Army (Eric Hill - Shelter Manager) - The Salvation Army is preparing for its annual Thanksgiving community dinner next Thursday, where they expect to serve between 300-600 people. Plans for a potential mural on their back wall are still under consideration. The board president is supportive, but final approval depends on some pending discussions with the city about possible changes to the back lot. If it moves forward, they hope to pursue donor support to help cover material costs.
The facility recently installed a new gate and fencing due to increasing safety concerns, particularly after incidents involving drug use on the property. The grounds will remain accessible from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. so people can still receive services, with the priority being the safety of the children on-site. Their annual December toy giveaway is also coming up and will serve around 1,500 families, though budget cuts have reduced capacity from last year. Food distribution continues on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Chicane Vandalism (Brad Lancaster) - Brad was investigating vandalism to chicanes on north 9th Avenue and had asked the city to leave the trimmings while he investigated. Brad was able to get answers from a neighbor’s security camera. Brad will reach out to the system to have them come out and gather the debris.
Safe Streets Mini Grants (Brendan Shea/Brad Lancaster) - Brendan and Brad shared an update on the Safe Streets mini-grant, which is open for traffic-calming and green stormwater projects. Applications due December 31st. Brad is preparing a draft letter for the next meeting outlining potential projects such as traffic circles and chicanes that already have strong neighbor approval and could be funded through the grant. We will likely hold a vote for writing a letter of neighborhood support in December.
