Discussion

Officer Fritch reported about burglaries in the neighborhood. He emphasized that we as a neighborhood need to be aware if anyone or anything strange is going on. Enforcement for the drug, spice, is very difficult because until the drug is analyzed, the officers cannot arrest until it is certain that the drug components are prohibited by law. Currently spice overdoses are happening in south central Tucson near Ronstadt center and homeless in the parks around the courts.

Asked about police support in community garden. Homeless occasionally sleeping in the garden, requesting night patrol to get them out of the garden. We can request “special checks” by TPD.

Gregg and Jen Payne are artists looking for deck park community art ideas. Gregg presented pictures and video of his previous community art projects.

Tom Fisher spoke about parking along 5th St and around Downtown Links area: Construction will begin around May of 2016. Tom said that because of the construction in the area between Stone and 10th avenues on 5th street, there will be reduced parking available for the people who have been parking in this area and then walking downtown to work. The residents continue to have permitted parking as usual.

He was glad to get some feedback from DSNA regarding parking needs and concerns. He wants any further comments so they can make any necessary adjustments prior to Downtown Links construction...mid 2016.

Permit parking for residents should remain in place on 5th Street. Major concern is excessive ticketing of parked cars in other parts of neighborhood. Downtown workers should find alternate parking in the downtown area so as not to occupy 5th Street parking used by business employees and customers. There have been issues in the past where 2-hour parking for adjacent businesses have been occupied all day. 5th Street businesses need on-street parking for employees and customers. Parking signage and permit options should be discussed with Park Tucson. --9th Avenue south of 5th Street needs to have parking once the construction work is completed. Perpendicular or angle parking could get more spaces on the wide street. TDOT will discuss the options and include in the final construction work. Direct comments or concerns to:
