Downtown Links Update
David Burbank let us know they have experienced continued delays. They are having issues with Lumen and splicing over temporary fiber to the permanent fiber solution. They still need to construct the storm drain vault and the storm drain pipe. The night of the 31st they are going to do some night paving from 5th street to the Stone underpass. Paving the multi-use path the following week that will go from Stone. About two weeks left of landscaping in the area. Lumen has agreed to splicing over the fiber lines. July 29th is the committed date and they are starting tonight and into the weekend. It was noted that Lumen has prior right with the railroad which means the city has less of a pull on getting them to prioritize finishing the fiber splice. At our last update in January we were told that it would happen mid-February and it’s still not complete. The city took the only action they had which was to put a pause on permits for Lumen until this was completed and it appears to have worked.
The updated estimated completion is now the end of January 2026. That is updated from July 2025 as last report by Sam Credio in January 2025. The deck plaza will be finished toward the end of the year but due to liability it won’t be able to open until all work for the project is completed.
Neighborhood Opposition of Project Blue: The amount of water and electricity is an extreme strain on our local resources. It was revealed that the company behind it is Amazon Web Services. A lot of great resources and reasons were shared by neighbors via email about why it is not good for our community. Everyone agreed to take a vote on opposing the project and to write a letter of disapproval ASAP. The vote was unanimous and Thomas will work to get a letter in opposition out quickly.
Neighborhood Letter of Support for 11th Ave + 2nd St Traffic Circle: It was agreed to wait to vote until Noemie and Brendan are in attendance as they are the ones leading this initiative. It was raised that engaging with the Baptist church at that corner would be advised as they had previous concerns about tall trees being used in the traffic circle plantings. Tall trees are no longer allowed in the traffic circles so that should alleviate any concerns.
